Brain Drain

The term "brain drain" describes a process in which people holding higher qualifications leave or emigrate from their home country, because they can find better opportunities and conditions abroad for using their qualifications. The opposite path is called "brain gain", that is the extent to which a country can attract people with higher qualifications from other parts of the world.

"Wissenschaft Weltoffen" only contains data on foreign academics and researchers who are on time-limited stays in Germany or Germans who are on a time-limited stays abroad. Consequently it is unable to comment on topics relating to "brain drain" or "brain gain".
